  2. November / 30 /1941 • The Nazis are bombing Britain and destroy Nicks house. His mom makes him go live with his dad in Burma. VS

  3. December / 12 / 1941 • Nick has arrived in Burma and sees that it is humid as soon as he gets off the plain. Were he meets his dad Jackson Freestone.

  4. December / 16 / 1941 • Nick arrives at ‘’Hawk’s nest’’, a plantation house, built by Nick’s great-grandfather Gilles Freestone.

  5. December / 20 /1941 • Nick is walking down a path and bumps into a monk and gives him an offering. But little does Nick know that the monk is going to be very helpful later on.

  6. December /20 /1941 • As Nick passes the monk only to find the village empty, and there's a reason for that. Little does he know that before he got there the villagers heard the warning that Hannibal, a feared elephant, was coming. Hannibal charges at Nick and hits him square in the ribs, breaking 3, but then retreats. • Hannibal is very important in the story.

  7. December / 20 /1941 • Nick meets an elephant mahout named Mya. She is the only girl mahout and proud of it. She is very head strong and always speaks her mind, which is sometimes good or bad.

  8. December / 30 / 1941 • The Japanese then trick the Burmese and invade. At Hawk’s Nest they take Nick, Mya, Jackson, and Mya’s brother, Indaw!

  9. January / 3 /1941 • Nick is still in captivity and is working on a crop. There he meets Srg. Sonji a wise and generous man. Becomes friends with Nick and helps him in the long run.

  10. January / 6 /1941 • Nick talks back to a solder and is brought to the sergeant for punishment. But the captain sees a little bit of his son in Nick and lets it go. He becomes nicer to Nick from there.

  11. January / 10 /1941 • Nick bumps in to the monk again and finds out he is called ‘’Taung Baw’’, which means Hilltop, and that he is respected everywhere, including in Japan! He is a famous mahout who was born on a hill, can talk to elephants, and is apparently over 100 years old!

  12. July / 10 / 1942 • Nick , Mya , and Hilltop are about to try to escape Hawk’s nest. If they succeed they are going to Australia where it is safe and wait for the war to die down.

  13. July / 12 /1942 • Nick has a dream that his dad is at the training camp being dug a grave because he is dead!!!

  14. July / 12 /1943 • Nick and his dad hear on the radio that the Japenese have surrendered to the Americans and so have the Natzis!

  15. July / 12 /1946 • Nick is now 18 yrs old he and his father live in Australia and he and Mya are in LOVE!
