  2. Simple Subject • The main word (or words) in the complete subject is called the simple subject • The simple subject will always be one word unless it is a proper noun! • Marty heard the bulldozer. • Marty Shaw heard the bulldozer.

  3. Simple Predicate • The main word (or words) in the complete predicate is called the simple predicate • The simple predicate is made up of at least one verb, a word that shows action or being • The main verb may have one or more helping verbs • Marty Shaw heard the bulldozer.

  4. Diagramming Simple Subject and Simple Predicate • Billy walked to the park • Who or what is the sentence about? Billy • What did Billy do? • Final Diagram walked Billy walked
