The Day ofthe Lord 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3
The truth that the end will come suddenly is taught throughout Scripture. • “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only” (Matt 24:36). • “The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up” (2 Pet 3:10).
Why would Jesus come unexpectedly? • God doesn’t reckon time the way we do. • 2 Pet 3:8. • God owes me no explanation. • God desires my holiness. • 1 Pet 1:14-16.
“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness” (2 Peter 3:11). • What sort of people ought we to be? • We need to be a prepared people. • We need to be a working people. • We need to be a generous people.
Where do you stand this morning? • Do you need to be prepared? • Do you need to get active in the Lord’s work? • Do you need to become more generous?
