  1. The Day of the Lord is: 1. Unknown and will be unexpected V.1-3

  2. Mark 13:32 32But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

  3. The Day of the Lord is: • Unknown and will be unexpected V.1-3 • For those in darkness v.4-7

  4. Ephesians 5:5-8 5For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.  6Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.  7Be not ye therefore partakers with them.  8For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

  5. The Day of the Lord is: • Unknown and will be unexpected V.1-3 • For those in darkness v.4-7 • Not for children of light v.8-10

  6. Malachi 3:16-18 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.

  7. 17And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.  18Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

  8. Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

  9. Hebrews 11:13-16 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.  14For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

  10. 15And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.  16But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

  11. The Day of the Lord is: • Unknown and will be unexpected V.1-3 • For those in darkness v.4-7 • Not for children of light v.8-10 Conclusions: 1. The day of the Lord is for those in darkness. 2. Children of light should be sober: a. Living by faith and love b. Hoping toward salvation

  12. Isaiah 53 1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

  13. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

  14. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

  15. 10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

  16. Amazing grace! how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I am found, was blind but now I see.

  17. ‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear. And grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed.

  18. When we’ve been there ten thousand years bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’d first begun.
