Russia’s Views on Germany • Soviets did not want Americas aid but determined to rebuild Shattered Russia • Soviets wanted to extract Germany’s resources for own- Massive Reparations • Views starting to clash • Russia fear another blitzkrieg and heavily resisted Germany’s revitalization
Splitting of Germany • Austria and Germany split into 4 military occupied zones • Four Zones were Russia, France, Britain, and The United States • Western allies refused Russia to bleed their zone of reparations (Stalin insisted been promised) • Allies also wanted reunited Germany • Communist responded by tightening grip on Eastern zone • Apparent Germany would remain divided • West Germany becomes independent but wedded to west • East Germany becomes nominally independent bound to the east
