Teachers play a crucial role in shaping young minds. Unfortunately, great teachers are not as abundant as needed. Research shows that factors like master's degrees do not necessarily correlate with teacher effectiveness. Tougher tenure decisions and focusing on quality rather than experience can lead to higher student achievement. It's time we re-evaluate what truly makes a great teacher and prioritize these aspects. Let's make impactful changes in education to ensure every student has access to high-quality teaching.

By improving the overall quality of the teacher pool (fewer weak teachers), the pay off would be significant.
Routinely denying tenure to the bottom 25 percent of all teachers would have a big impact on student achievement at a fraction of the cost.
