Project Overview • Project DescriptionArtWorks as a longstanding partner with the Avondale community will partner with the Avondale Development Corporation and numerous community organizations invested in Avondale to empower local Youth Apprentices (ages 14-21) and Professional Artists to enliven the neighborhood with light-based interactive public art installations along a walking and bike trail. The outcomes of this project will be physical activations that address themes outlined in the Avondale Quality of Life Plan which include but are not limited to Safety, Health & Wellness, Strengthening Partnerships, and Sharing Success. • Vision Statement provided by the Avondale Quality of Life Plan (2018-Present) • “Avondale is a proud, resilient community with a rich culture and history of African American change-makers and community –builders. The community is safe and healthy, and everyone shares in its success. Families and individuals – young and old – are recognized as the backbone of the community, finding strength together, they are vested in Avondale’s bright future. 3. Submission Instructions Complete the brief Artist information form and the following PowerPoint template in fill. Submissions are due no later than Friday, December 6, 2019. Artist notification from ArtWorks will be at the end of December 2019. Multiple concepts by one artist/artist group will be accepted, but each concept must be submitted separately. Failure to complete all required fields will result in disqualification from the opportunity. Avondale Activations Concept Proposal Description: Youth Apprentice Employment [Call out opportunities for your project to include youth employment opportunities: # of youth, # of hours, # of weeks, and project tasks they support. Minimum 50 words. ArtWorks Youth Apprentices are ages 14-21 and support nearly all of our public art outcomes as paid seasonal employees. Youth Apprentices can support from the later stages of design refinement, community engagement opportunities, fabrication, and installation – pending specialized training. Youth Apprentices work anywhere from 10-20 hours per week for at least 3 weeks.] Four Youth Apprentices will be hired for this project in total. Artists do not need to plan to employ 4 Youth Apprentices each. However, artists are encourages to consider youth engagement and how many would be appropriate to support your work of art.
