type of book and I am a fan of this author's works. In my opinion certain rules need to be followed with light romantic comedy type reads like this one. First of all, I need to see why the characters are attracted to each other, and honestly I have no idea why Sean would be into Jess. She is surly and rude to him throughout the entire book. Hawthorne tries to justify this through perceived past wrongs but honestly she treats this guy like dirt, so why would he bother.Another issue I have with the book is that questions and conflicts are raised but never resolved. For example, there is growing tension throughout the book between Jess and her best friend Liz, but we never have ANY kind of resolution on that. Do they stay friends? Do they start to hate each other? Do they just drift apart??? We are never told, so I guess we'll never know. Also, Jess deals with a lot of inner turmoil and stress over whether or not she is actually cut out to be a camp councilor. She signs up originally for boys and freedom, but as she is preparing she starts to wonder if she's qualified to actually take care of other people. We never find out if she has found that confidence at the end of the book. It seems like some issues are solved with the ending, but others are just left out to dry. There were some funny moments in the book, and some great romantic scenes between the two main characters, but that isn't enough to justify reading this book for me. I feel like this is an early draft that should have been worked on a little more before being published. Other 'First Kiss' novels are very good, and other Rachel Hawthorne books are very good, but this one isn't recommended by me. Oh. No. This can't be happening. Me and Sean Reed? "Trust Partners" for the entire counselors-in-training program? Sean may have deep blue eyes that make my heart flutter whenever he looks at me, but he's always been a troublemaker. Being thrown together all summer? That is so not going to work. Even if he does have a really, really nice smile. Trust me on this. About the AuthorRachel Hawthorne believes in happy endings and adopting older rescue dogs. She also writes as New York Times bestselling author Lorraine Heath and as J. A. London with her son, Alex.
