1. State President’s Message First Quarter Classic Legacy Awards Four times during the year, we will recognize chapters chosen by the State Board for doing a GREAT job with projects, fundraising, membership drives, inputting information into CHARITY and CARES, and exemplifying what it means to be “A Citizen Wherever We Serve.” Nominations come from local management, state board members, and information submitted for the monthly Energizer. Chosen by the State Board for the first quarter and receiving $500 each are: Josh Stallings It’s hard to believe that nearly three months have passed this year. Our chapters have accomplished so much in such a short period of time. The State Board recently recognized four chapters with Classic Legacy Awards. These four chapters have done a tremendous job supporting their communities in the first quarter. Remember that one source for nominations is material sent in for “The Energizer”. I am excited to see what the next three months holds. In addition to highlighting the great work you’ve done over the past month, we wanted to spotlight all of our chapter officers this month. At the end of this issue is a listing of all of our chapter officers around the state. A great movie called The Sting won the Oscar for best picture in 1973. In the film, Robert Redford and Paul Newman play a couple of con men who pull one over on a mobster. While Redford and Newman are the faces of the operation, there is a team of dozens of people working with them to make sure their sting is carried out to perfection. While in many locations there may be one person who is the face of the chapter, it takes a team of people working together to keep a chapter running smoothly. Whether you realize it or not, there are people in your chapter who are doing things like entering member information, keeping records in CHARITY, sending birthday cards, or organizing projects. As featured this month, there are also people who prepare hot meals, plant trees, and flaunt their “beauty” to fund cancer research. Whatever your role is, our organization and our communities are better because of the work you are doing. Gwinnett Heart of GA/Macon Jefferson Street Milledgeville/Plant Branch Edie Scales is Retiring Thanks for your hard work and friendly smile! Edie Scales is retiring after 27 years with the company and the past 9 in Volunteer Services. She has served as Assistant State Treasurer for the Citizens of Georgia Power and also a co-chapter coordinator for the Metro Central Ambassadors. She is a member and past officer of the North Fulton Area Chapter. Best wishes to Edie and Bobby as they spend more time with their son, daughter-in-law, and their new grandson due to arrive in August.

3. Feature of the Month Electric Kids, Inc. Electric Kids was founded in 1991 to help the children of deceased or disabled Georgia Power or Southern Company employees based in Georgia What type of help does Electric Kids provide? The general fund provides financial assistance with such things as medical and dental insurance premiums, various school associated expenses, musical lessons or anything that benefits the child and might be curtailed due to the decrease in family income. There is a $4000 annual limit per child and $12,000 annual limit per family. What is the Collin Banks Fund? Collin Banks fund provides up to $4,000 per year for up to 5 years for educational expenses for secondary, college, post-graduate, professional, technical and vocational schools. How much did Electric Kids donate in 2012? $77,600 to assist children of deceased or disabled employees. How can I help Electric Kids? If you are in the Club of Hearts area you can designate Electric Kids as one of the Club of Hearts agencies OR you can go to the Citizens of Georgia Power website and sign up for monthly payroll tax-deductible donations or contact the State Office for a pledge form.

4. Savannah Generation Supports Career Day at Hodge Elementary Chapter Name Change Members of the Savannah Generation Chapter were Presenters at the February 21 Career Expo at Hodge Elementary. H L Thomas Chapter is now Metro East Chapter. Statesboro Chapter Participates in Chocolate Run Statesboro Chapter members set up a tent at the First Annual Chocolate Run, held in downtown Statesboro. The event, sponsored by the 2013 Leadership Bulloch Class, was held to support the Open Hearts Community Mission for the homeless. Members and family were on hand to sell World’s Finest Chocolate Candy in support of their 2013 Relay for Life project, and to cheer on chapter president Yolanda Tremble, who participated in the 5k race. Participating in the event were Kesha Ward, Molly Edenfield, Anthony Bing, Victoria Moore and Yolanda Tremble. 5. Jefferson Street’s 5th Annual Lunch 4 Lunch Project Wednesday, February 20, the Jefferson Street Chapter, held another successful Lunch 4 Lunch project. Members donated bread, lunch meat, cheese, fruit, individual juices and other items. Then, the group met on their lunch hour that day and assembled 819 bagged lunches for delivery to the Crossroads Mission to feed homeless men. The Awesome Assembly Line! 6. Gwinnett Chapter Supports Hi-Hope Service Center Milledgeville/Plant Branch Chapter Supports Arbor Day at Oak Hill Elementary The Gwinnett Chapter held a Valentines event at Duluth Operating on February 12.  Twenty-two members made Valentines cards and decorated cupcakes for the 140 clients at Hi-Hope Service Center in Lawrenceville.  They delivered these along with some sugar free cakes to Hi-Hope the following day.  Hi-Hope provides care for adults with developmental disabilities.  The chapter has developed a partnership with Hi-Hope and have plans for at least one project for the center each month. Members of the Milledgeville/Plant Branch Chapter participated in supporting the Arbor Day event on Feb. 12 at Oak Hill Elementary School. Seedlings (50 Gobbler Sawtooth Oak) were donated to the school to plant on campus. Athens Supports March of Dimes With Valentine Project The Athens Chapter began their fundraising efforts for the year with a flower sale for Valentines. The proceeds were for the March of Dimes. What better way to show support for the special unborn Valentines in their community than by honoring the special Valentines in their own personal lives. The project earned over $500. Chairing the project were Wanda Weldon, Angie Kinley, and Caroline Lewis. Heart of GA/Macon Chapter Is GOING TO THE DOGS! The Heart of GA/Macon Chapter is having a departmental challenge to see who can donate the most dog and cat food to benefit All About Animals, a local NO KILL animal shelter. In addition, they are taking the lead of the Jefferson Street Chapter and collecting old shirts with the company logo to donate to the shelter. They will be cutting the logo off the shirts prior to donation. The campaign is running the entire month of March. The winning department will receive the Golden Dog Bone Trophy!

7. Jefferson Street Makes Donations to Atlanta Day Shelter Customer Care Raising Funds for Relay For Life Team Georgia Power Customer Care Center has been feverishly fundraising for Relay for Life.  They currently have raised $5,233 and that number is steadily increasing. Merid Alemayehu (left) and Fisseha Bartolomeos (right) make delivery and are thanked by Duffy of the Atlanta Day Shelter The Piney Grove Baptist Church Blanket Ministry made a donation of blankets (mother of member Eric Hufstetler is in the group) to the Jefferson Street Chapter for use to a charity. The chapter donated the blankets to the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children. The shelter serves an average of 140 homeless women and children every day. Two members (shown above) took time during their lunch to deliver the blankets to the shelter on February 28. RFL Mr. Relay Pageant Contestants, Alex Gonzales, Clint Massey, George Crews, Bryan Goss, Adam Simmons, Clayton Brown & Al McCullar SCRIP Program Benefits Educational Loan Fund and Now Accepts Credit Cards The Relay for Life Committee at the Customer Care Center has raised $2,345 to date, by hosting a Breakfast ($675) and a Mr. Relay Beauty Pageant ($1670).  They have initiated “Penny Wars” which will conclude in mid-April, as well as several upcoming fundraising events If you like to give gift cards to your employees or family and friends, we have a program for you. It's called UnitedScrip. This program includes a wide variety of stores and restaurants who partner in fundraising for charities. 8. 2013 Hunger Walk – March 9 7 Chapters Participate General Office at the Hope Lodge More than 15,000 people came out to run/walk in the breathtaking display of community togetherness, and collectively logged 75,000 kilometers to take a stand against hunger in our community. That’s the equivalent of walking around the world almost twice! (left to right) Debbie Hodges, Jeannice Hall, Jim Hodges, Debbie Blackwell, Loretta Young, Carolyn Wilson, Chair. The General Office Chapter cooked and served dinner to the cancer patients and caregivers at Hope Lodge on February 28. Augusta’s Adopt A Mile Project Twenty members of the General Office , Jefferson Street, Customer Care, Forest Park, Metro East, Metro South and Plant Yates Chapters participated in the 29th Walk held at Turner Field. Jim Hodges of the General Office Chapter was the chair. The team raised $700. On Saturday, March 2, eleven Augusta CGP volunteers participated in the chapter’s quarterly adopt a mile project. Jeff Grantham, East Region Engineer, led the project. Sixteen large bags of trash were collected on the cold Saturday morning.

9. Lights, Cameras, Action! These are the producers, directors, film editors, screenwriters, talent agents, and directors of special effects who make our year possible…in other words…your 2013 chapter officers! Thank them for their leadership…but remember YOU are our actors! We couldn’t be successful without YOU!
