  2. Climate Change Our Homeland will become Drier and Windier and Hotter More Intense Weather Events Sand Dune Encroachment Less Precipitation How is Itepy Reservoir and Calzona Vulnerable? Itepy Supports Construction projects (i.e. PowerLink Project) Itepy Recreational Business (10% of annual Tribal Budget, $1.2 Million) Main source of water for the Calzona community Used as water source to fight forest fires How Vulnerable is Itepy Reservoir? Less Rain & Snow=Less Water in Itepy!

Tribal Resolution #2012 Financial assistance to help change from high water consuming plants to low water consuming Native plants Financial Assistance to help purchase rain collecting barrels to help water lawns Attempt to remain within guideline of the Landscape Conservation Cooperative Tribal Resolution #2012

  4. Public Water Works • Population of 3,200 in Calzona is increasing 2.2% a year • Water supports new business development • Do not want to decrease comfort of living on the Lipi Wamana Nation

  5. Itepy Reservoir/Dam Recreation • Contributes 10% to 1.2 million dollar budget. • Provides Funds for Dam Maintenance Budget • Helps fund the Elderly Living Center and the Youth Center. • Provides market place for Native Arts and Crafts makers.

  6. Forest Fire Department • BMP’s on Forest Land surrounding Itepy Reservoir. • Burn Practice – reduce fuel for high intensity fire. • Conserve water for community (homes, public buildings, construction, & recreation).

  7. Construction Department • Power Link Project • 100 Miles of Powerline • 2,000 Gallons of Water Trucks for a 10 mile stretch • Concrete, dust control, • Our Construction project brings jobs to Lipi Wamana Nation. • Next Water source is 40 miles away • Without water, PowerLink Project is NOT Feasible.
