The Florida Safe Routes to School Program aims to increase the number of students walking and biking to school and improve safety conditions for those already doing so. This program has received substantial funding and offers both infrastructure and non-infrastructure opportunities for applicants from various educational and governmental entities. Projects include sidewalk improvements, bike/trail facilities, traffic engineering, and more. Encouragement programs, safety education, enforcement cooperation with law enforcement, and evaluation are key components. With over $68 million programmed and significant participation, the program has shown a 41% increase in walking rates. Florida's progress in this initiative demonstrates the positive impact of small investments in promoting active transportation to school.
