  1. Objective: Students will learn about trial procedures in the civil and criminal court systemDo Now What is the difference between a grand jury and a petit jury? Explain. Grand jury: Determines if there is enough evidence for someone to stand trial. If so, hands down an indictment. After the indictment, the defendant is asked to plead guilty/not guilty. If they plead not guilty, the defendant is arraigned on the charges and sent to trial. Petit jury: The jury that determines the final verdict in a court case.
