Function • The function of the digestive system is to take out nutrients in food and dispose of the extra waste.
Organs • The organs include: • -Liver • -Gallbladder • -Small intestine • -Stomach • -Esophagus • -Anus • -Rectum • -Mouth • -Colon • -Appendix
Mouth, Esophagus, Stomach • Mouth- Take in food • Esophagus-To force food from the throat into the stomach. • Stomach- To chemically and mechanically digest food and to turn food into chime so the body can digest it.
Liver, Gallbladder, Pancreas • Liver-To filter toxins from blood and it makes bile. • Gallbladder-To store and release bile into the small intestine. • Pancreas- Delivers enzymes to break down fat.
Rectum/ Anus, Colon, Appendix • Rectum/ Anus-To keep the intestine sealed shut until the need to pass feces arises. • Colon/ Large intestine-To absorb water and then to pass useless waste from the body. • Appendix- No technical function.
