  2. Infographic Criteria • Colour and layout • Symbols • Key quotations • Text to self • Text to world • References

  3. Colours and Layout • Do the colours work to support the book in terms of meaning? • Does the layout have a good use of space? • Does the layout naturally guide your eye to easy information retrieval? • Is it crowded and confusing?

  4. Symbols Incorporate symbols that demonstrate: characters, settings, conflicts and themes from your novel. Do you have SIMPLE but effective images?

  5. KEY QUOTATIONS: Include 3-4 key quotations from your novel. These are really significant quotes that really struck you when you were reading your novel.

  6. TEXT-to-SELF: • Describe a significant connection you have made between the fiction text and your own life and/or experiences. • Include specific examples that relate to either characters, conflict or themes. • 2-3 sentences here.

  7. TEXT-to-WORLD • Describe a significant connection you have made between the fiction text and events which have happened or are happening around the world. • This is where your evidence you researched comes in. Be sure to reference it in MLA style,

  8. Overall Goals Infographic demonstrates: • Deep understanding of novel • Meaningful symbols • Use of direct/indirect examples to support • Extensive text-to-self & text-to world connection • Excellent organization • Insightful design

  9. Paragraph 1 • Explains your infographic: • Use of colour & Layout • Symbols • Themes, characters, setting, etc • Real world –text connection • Why you chose the quotes you did. • You connection explained.

  10. Paragraph 2 • Persuades reader to pick your book for the Summer reading list top 5. • Give your opinion and why. • Convince the reader to agree with it. • The supporting details are very important!Afterall, if you want someone to agree with you, you’ve got to give them a reason!

  15. http://mrwendler.files.wordpress.com Why can’t we skateboard in the halls?  I think we should be able to skateboard in the halls because then we would be more active.  It would help us get to class quicker.  We could learn about teaching by demonstrating how to do tricks to younger students.  We could have competitions with other schools.  It could be part of gym class.  Some kids who walk to school could skateboard instead so they won’t be late as often.  We could help teachers too by helping them move things using our skateboards.  Students should have permission to use skateboards in the halls.
