  2. What is Trigonometry • Study of how sides and angles of a triangle are related to each other

  3. When/where did trigonometry originate • It came from the ancient Egyptian and Babylonian • It was kind of a mathematic way to work with triangles

  4. 3 most used trig functions and their ratios • Sine: a/h (opposite over hypotenuse) • Cosine: b/h (adjacent over hypotenuse) • Tangent: a/b (opposite over adjacent) • Cotangent, secant, and cosecant are three other functions

  5. Three other functions • Cotangent, secant, and cosecant • All of the functions require being set up as a ratio • Cosine, cotangent, and cosecant use horizontal lines • Secant, sine, and tangent use vertical lines • I have seen sine tangent and cosine on the calculator we use in class.

  6. Real-world applications that involve trig • Building bridges and determining the force of a beam • Whether your ladder is long enough to clean out a gutter • Creating a map (cartography) • Digital imaging

  7. Unit Circle • A circle with a radius of one • Demonstrates that sine and cosine are periodic functions • Yes circles and triangles
