  2. The different types of communication that a school can use • Written – letters, memoranda, reports, notices. • Oral – telephone, face-to-face, meetings. • Visual – charts, tables, posters, adverts. • Electronic – fax, e-mail, pager. • Non verbal – body language.

  4. Memoranda • Internal Message in firm- • Informal Communication =no salutation • Brief & to the point • Written record

  6. Advantages of a memo • Quick and easy to write and send • Cheap • Copy to a large number of people easily • Short

  7. Memos & the future….. • Electronic memo is becoming more & more popular! WHY?

  8. Disadvantages of memos • Not guaranteed to be read • Readers often decide whether to read the memo solely on the basis of title line. The line is important…can be ignored! • No immediate feedback

  9. Notices • Public announcements- internal & external. • Myton school= West End Story

  10. Advantages of notice • Cheap • Easily seen • Disadvantages • Torn • May be missed

  11. Forms • Filled in by hand= neat & correct • Advantages • Issuer of form can ask precisely what is required= less irrelevant info to read • Disadvantages • Hand written= poor format= hard to read • Filling out wrong= problems!

  12. Business Meetings • When a meeting is arranged-inform participants of date, time & place. This is communicated by NOTICE OF MEETING. • Agenda= What will be discussed in meeting
