  5. Materials Necessary for the Lesson Birthday Book Summary of Birthday traditions around the world Map of the World Five separate directions for each group Bucket or Hat Construction paper and color tissue paper Glue, Scissors, crayons, and tape

  6. Introduction of 100 minute lesson Students will sit on floor listening while teacher reads birthday book Summary of Birthdays around the World Questions and answers Rules given before activity proceeds

  7. Development of Lesson First 10 minutes: Teacher divides class in five groups and picks birthday child for each group. Teacher explains basic directions for lesson. 30 minutes: Students’ gather supplies & create artwork 20 Minutes: Teacher explains play acting. Children practice their parts in play acting. 25 Minutes; 5 minutes given for each groups play. 5 Minutes: Conclusion and homework.

  8. Example of artwork and play acting Country: New Zealand Objects to Make: Three Dimensional Cake and candles out of construction paper Play Acting: Children clap and sing “ Happy Birthday” Reader reads about new Zealand's birthday tradition and points to map where it is located
