Why did the Saxons invade Hastings? • Harold Godwinson was given the throne and this made William, who was the Norman King who conquered England, angry. This started the Battle of Hastings, where William ended up winning.
What is Oxford? • Oxford is a city in central-southern Europe. It is known for being a university and home of the University of Oxford, the oldest University in England and the English speaking world.
How was chess introduced? • Chess first appeared in Southern Europe during the end of the first millennium. It was introduced to English by conquering armies, in this case, the Normans conquered England.
Why was Thomas Beckett murdered? • He was murdered on orders of his best friend, the king because the king wished to control the Church, where it was powerful both religiously and politically. Henry II, the king at the time, wanted the Church gone because it was challenging his power
Why were commoners allowed in Parliament? • The reason for including commoners in Parliament was to counteract against the poor being overly dependent on the lord and rich of England.
