  6. The Jazz Age • Prohibition starts in 1919, banning the sale of alcohol • Characterized by bootleggers, speak-easies, flappers, jazz music, and gangsters • 1920s women’s suffrage plays a role

  7. Harlem Renaissance • Great movement in black arts, poetry, and music (blues) • Geographic center of the movement was Harlem, NY • Laid the foundation for future African American artists and writers
