National Association of School Nurses Raise Awareness for Meningitis Mamie Coker, RN, BSN, NCSN, Health Services Coordinator, Hall County spoke on meningococcal meningitisat the Voices of Meningitis campaign Tuesday, May 20 at the Mountain View Aquatic Center in Marietta, Georgia Dara Torres, 12-time Olympic Medalist and mother Bob Werner, father of Becky Werner who lost her life to meningitis Dara challenged local swim teams to join her in completing 24 laps in the pool Director’s Report

RN - Effective, January 31, 2016, registered nurses will be required to submit documentation of continuing competency as a condition of licensure renewal.  • LPN - Effective, March 31, 2017, registered nurses will be required to submit documentation of continuing competency as a condition of licensure renewal.  The Board is currently discussing the regulatory provisions for this act and will begin publishing information in the next few months.  Director’s Report

GA Employer Sponsored Continuing Education Programs Only used for up to 50% of total contact hours Must provide: Agenda Objectives – 1 objective required 30 - 60 min 2 objectives for one hour or more Sign-in Sheet Attendee Certificate – Sample Offerings must be more than 30 minutes in duration Cannot be On-the-job orientation One Contact Hour = 60 minutes of instruction – no breaks Director’s Report

  27. GEORGIA NURSES ASSOCIATION LEGISLATIVE DAY was on March 5, 2014. The GASN Board registered and attended this event. Carol Darsey, GASN President and Melanie Bales, GASN Member, joined hundreds of nurses from across the state in educating legislators on what Nurses and School Nurses do every day and stood on the steps at the Capitol for a photo opportunity with our Governor Nathan Deal. Both ladies met with State Legislators to discuss more monies for school nurse funding. GASN
