Learning Workshop: Next Steps…Academics • Start observing your child’s homework habits, learning style, attitude towards school • Scaffold/support your child’s learning style • Set up routines for HW time & stick to it • Build a partnership w/the teacher • Write a note to teacher about observations during homework time, e.g. which HW seemed harder to do, ask for ideas • Follow up with the teacher’s suggestions • Find/ask forresources • Arrange for a study buddy Allow time for & learning from mistakes!
Learning Workshop: Next Steps…Social/Emotional • Be explicit & matter of fact when explaining things, answering questions, giving examples • Make adjustments to the family schedule to make routines simpler, easier to manage • Buildintransition times between activities • Strive for balance! • Add in physical play time for the entire family • Participatein community events, service • BE PRESENT, BE FLEXIBLE! • Pay attention to & engage your childwithout interruption & the tech stuff! Allow time for & learning from mistakes!
