  1. les verbes -er • In the English present tense, the verb makes only one change in its form. • Ex. to walk • I walk • You walk • We walk • They walk BUT • he, she, it walks

  2. les verbes -er In French, there are lots of changes. The base form of most French verbs ends in the letters -er. To change (or conjugate) the -er verbs, you need to do the following:

  3. les verbes -er remove the -er.  add the following endings with these subjects: je (I) -e nous (we) -ons tu (you) -es vous (you) -ez il (he) -e ils (they) -ent elle (she) -e elles (they) -ent

  4. les verbes -er -er verb endings je (I) -e tu (you) -es Let’s break this down into simple steps. Using the word parler (to speak) • take off the -er and we have parl- • to say “I speak”, use “Je” and then put the ending that goes with “Je “ on the end of parl- Je parle. I speak. OR I am speaking. OR I do speak. • OK. C’est à toi! (Your turn)

  16. Let’s practice. -er verb endings je (I) -e tu (you) -es écouter = to hear I hear. J’écoute.
