  1. Security, Government & Infrastructure (SG&I) Technology Vision, Architecture, Strategy and Product Plans Vince Smith SG&I Product Planning

  2. Technology Vision • Use the right tool for the right job • Thick / Smart client applications still best for complex data maintenance and real time mission critical applications • Our applications do “Heavy Lifting”. We will continue to invest in these platforms. • Continue to augment with thin client technology • Embrace Service Oriented Architectures • SG&I SOA Framework • Loosely coupled reusable components • Managed services • Microsoft platforms for application architecture and development • Oracle and Microsoft for database • Exploit emerging platforms • MS Virtual Earth, Google Maps Software Plus Services

  3. SGI Architecture Progression

  4. SGI Application Architecture Software Plus Services On Premises and Off Premises

  5. Technology and Architecture Initiatives • Initiatives which: • Are in line with our technology vision and roadmap • Move our technology platform forward resulting in benefits to our customers and to Intergraph • Often common across multiple platforms • Two main buckets: • Consolidate • Innovate • and renovate/enhance along the way

  6. Technology and Architecture Initiatives Consolidation • Enhanced Common Geospatial Data Model • Enhanced Spatial Data Visualization for G/Technologyand GeoMedia • Enhanced Geospatial Capabilities for CAD/InService • Identity and Access Management (Secure Single Sign On) Innovation • SOA for SGI • New Integration Platform • New SGI Client Technology • Mobile The “Big 8”

  7. Consolidation

  8. Consolidation Benefits of Product Consolidation • Users can seamlessly take advantage of all Intergraph geospatial tools resulting in new capabilities and efficiencies • Future display and data model enhancements done one time and available to all users • Improved meta data configuration tools reduce system management costs • Consolidated development frees Intergraph resources for more enhancements and innovation

  9. Common Data Model and Data Access • Description: Continue the work of unifying G/Technology and GeoMedia by developing a common configuration platform that allows users to configure once and then utilize G/Tech or GM seamlessly. Includes common data model, configuration meta-data, meta data access and some data access. Foundation for all enterprise geospatial systems in SGI. • Benefits for customers: Will allow our Intergraph and our customers to more seamlessly mix GeoMedia and G/Technology capabilities. Make customers more effective. Bring true enterprise configuration to GeoMedia. Delivers an effective meta data editor.

  10. Common Spatial Data Visualization for G/Technology and GeoMedia • Description: G/Technology has firm requirements forenhanced symbolization. Other requirements such as OGC support, translucency and image management also required by G/Technology. GeoMedia would beneit from a more performant and scalable display capability. This initiative results in a merged visualization system that will allow us to put the best of both worlds in the GeoMedia and G/Tech products. • Benefits for customers: Customers able to take advantage of the best of G/Technology and GeoMedia.

  11. New Geospatial Capabilities for CAD/InService • Description: Implement a new geospatial capability within CAD/InService. Accomplished by taking enhanced GeoMedia platform and integrating it with CAD/InService. • Benefits for customers: Our traditional CAD and InService markets as well as new markets such as Transit Security, Border Security and SmartGrid/IOM are demanding new geospatial functionality. Implementing enhanced GeoMedia technology in CAD will result in a wealth of new geospatial capabilities (e.g. symbology, data integration, OGC support, analysis, coordinate system support).

  12. Identity and Access Management (Single Sign On) • Description: Implement an industry standard identity and access management system which will allow application security, including role level access to data and functionality, to be managed in a single sign-on environment within our customers enterprises. Utilizes LDAP. • Benefits for Customers: Allows customers to centrally manage security across all applications. Reduces costs and provides a greater level of security.

  13. Benefits by Product Families & Industry • G/Technology gets: • Translucency • Composite Point Styles • Animation • OGC client interfaces • Optimum Raster Format Access • TerraShare Access • Secure Sign-on • OGC Metadata access • GeoMedia gets: • High performance display • Enterprise configuration and management • Enterprise tool for application metadata definition • Enterprise tool for Catalog metadata management • Secure Sign On

  14. Benefits by Product Lines and Industry • CAD gets: • Rich GeoSpatial Display and Data Fusion • Competitive GeoSpatial Analysis • An open geospatial platform which can be enhanced and extended • Secure Sign On PLUS • G/Technology can now be applied to Government, Transportation and Military • GeoMedia can more effectively be applied to Utilities and Communications

  15. Innovation

  16. SOA for SGI (Source: Enterprise SOA: Service Oriented Architecture Best Practices by Dirk Krafzig, Karl Banke, and Dirk Slama, Prentice Hall 2004)

  17. The Ultimate Vision: Visual Orchestration

  18. Typical Service Chain

  19. SOA for SGI • Description: Evolve SGI architecture to a services oriented architecture as appropriate. Includes both architecture work and discrete developments: • SDI 1.0, TerraShare 3.0, GeoMedia Grid, Public Safety Integration, BI Integration • Benefits for Customers: Continuation of the object oriented s/w architecture first implemented by SGI with COM. Benefits of SOA are well documented and expected by many organizations: reusability, loose coupling, agility, orchestration, application server capabilities, etc.

  20. Interoperability – Public Safety

  21. New Integration Platform • Description: Message bus, middleware, ESB have become standard approaches to integration for complex environments. Closely aligned with SOA. • Benefits for Customers: More effective integration, interoperability and interface development. Using industry standard platforms.

  22. New SGI Client Technology • Description: Current apps are mainly MFC based thick clients or HTML/ASP based Web 1.0 thin clients. Web 2.0 type thin client becoming standard. Need to continue the process of refreshing our applications. Field Reporting and WebMap mashups underway. Choose platforms. Pick a discrete project(s): e.g. SDI Portal, I/NetViewer • Benefits for Customers: Increased usability, capability and efficiency.

  23. New Client Example: WebMap Mashup

  24. New Client Example: Field Reporting

  25. Mobile • Description: Hi growth area driven by increased bandwidth and new portable devices. Need a single architecture and migration strategy. Sometimes connected, multi-form factor with an integrated geospatial capability loosely coupled to the back office. • Benefits for Customers: Opportunity to adopt modern mobile architecture which increases their effectiveness and efficiency..

  26. 2008 • Consolidation • Improves all of our platforms • Lets us build new things one time • Over time reduces maintenance on multiple platforms • All our customers can take advantage of all the great things in our product families • Strengthens all of us and makes us more competitive • Innovation • Refresh technology in selected areas • Take advantage of new platforms and technologies. • Fresh and new things are in our future
