FAVOR SC Richard Jones: President
12/1/2006: FAVOR SC formed: promote long-term recovery from substance use disorders through education, advocacy and recovery support services, resulting in healthier individuals, families, and communities. FAVOR SC will be organized into local groups by county or groups of counties called Chapters. A Chapter shall be a local group which subscribes to the mission as contained in Article II herein and meets the FAVOR SC Board established policies. (These policies are in the board policy manual.) Note: FAVOR SC has no direct authority over each individual chapter outside of “membership” as defined in policy. It is a network of chapters; each autonomous self-governing. 2007-2009: Pat Taylor and Phil Valentine present at first Recovery Advocacy in Action Conference in SC; Chapters continue to coordinate/network at FAVOR SC level. [FAVOR South Carolina] RCSP-SN Strengthening and Expanding RCO Infrastructure – Statewide Project What did you create that you are really proud of? Served as catalyst for change by reorganizing the FAVOR SC Statewide Network, the FAVOR SC Board of Directors, defining staff roles, establishing the role of a Statewide Network Weaver, and discovering ways to amplify the peer voice at multiple levels of scale by researching state systems and suggesting changes to include peers in recovery-oriented care Established clear communication process and protocols that support the statewide network and each individual RCO partner Encouraged emerging RCOs – assisted in the launch of RCO partner, FAVOR Lowcountry Re-established annual FAVOR SC Statewide Conference; connected growing network of RCO social media communities Advanced workforce development within the state of South Carolina – trained peers and offered “peerfessional” development opportunities (e.g. developed additional recovery supports - TRS, PLRG, Pastoral, Family) and follow-up trainings (MI Booster, Peer Supervision) Worked alongside SSA (SC DAODAS) to improve CPSS exam prep/performance (e.g. culturally responsive questions) Supported Community Listening Sessions and Recovery Rallies in each network community Strengthened and expanded linkages among stakeholders and recovery allies (301 System, integrated care) to expand peer services integration; importantly relationship-building and strategic planning for/with underserved folks Increased awareness of systems improvement and planning and sustainability, highlighting the importance of seeking other funding sources, ARCO membership, CAPRSS accreditation, and the value of resources archived in TA team’s eLibrary DAODAS Support; financial and otherwise has been essential to our evolution

We have created a program in our houses based on FAVOR principles and our houses are integrated into our FAVOR Grand Strand Community benefiting from our resources like being linked to a coach, peer navigator, and social worker. • We are also providing transportation for those folks to mental health and medical services. We have a supply of donated items to help the person entering our houses with nothing, like clothes, food, etc.
