  3. Reading * Mini.Lessons Teaching Strategies of Good Readers * Different skills and strategies taught while students are reading books at their own levels. * Fiction and non-fiction * Character Study * Independent at home reading

  4. Language Arts * Students are AUTHORS * Writer’s Notebook…Writing Workshop -> Observe – Collect Ideas * Small Moment Narratives * Study of Fairy Tales * Non.fiction * Persuasive Writing * Realistic Fiction

  5. Mathematics *Math in Focus curriculum *Develop math proficiency: see relationships, EXPLAIN solutions, become risk takers – PERSEVERE, decompose and compose numbers, use multiple strategies *THINK about math and not just do the math. *TOPICS: Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Measurement, Time and Money, Shapes and their Attributes *Access Think Central from home to support math instruction videos – resources, info coming next week

  7. Science *Topics include: ...Weather ..Human Body ..Force and Motion .Butterflies and Moths

  8. Social Studies New curriculum – activity based instruction *Topics include: Communities Goods and Services – Supply and Demand Maps – Map Tools Madison Over Time Timelines

  9. Field Trips * To Be Announced – Early Trades and Crafts Museum * CHAPERONES --- - classroom parents

  10. Birthdays MOVIE STAR for the DAY! *Red carpet rolled out your child!* Students get his/her autograph.. . etc Currently 17 children in 2A No Food Allowed this year!

  11. Homework * Homework folder goes home every night and comes back the next day. Please review your child’s homework pad and folder each night. * Assignments reviewed at 3:00 every day - notebooks are signed with my initials (if needed) * Often math activity to reinforce the day’s lesson * Preparation for science experiment * Social Studies “research” – news article about Madison * Homework policy * Send me an email if there is a struggle with any assignments * Around 20 minutes a night
