Signs • A common sign of thrush is the presence of creamy white slight raised bumps in your mouth, usually on your tongue or inner cheeks – but also sometimes on the roof of your mouth,gums,tonsils or back of the throat • Some mothers pass the infection back and forth with the child especially if breast feeding.
Symptoms • Pain or difficult time swallowing • Feeling the food gets stuck in the throat • Fever • Thrush can spread to other parts of the body including the lungs, liver and skin. • Some babies end up with a diaper yeast infection.
Bacterial • Thrush is a bacterial disease. They are many causes to this disease • Illness • Pregnancy • Smoking • Dentures • Most Common in babies and toddlers
Treatment • Thrush usually clears up on its own in a couple of weeks. • Some doctors or pediatrician may be able to prescribe a oral fungal medication. • If so , you'll paint the medicene on the white patches. • Takes up to two weeks to clear
Prevention • Practice good oral hygiene • Practice good hand washing • Replace toothbrush often. • Best to not let family members put fingers in babies mouth. • If bottle feeding , boil bottle and nipples • Wash hands before feeding the child.
Contagious? • Yes! • If the mother has a yeast infection during birth , the child may be exposed to the bacteria and can get Thrush. • If the child has thrush and is breast feeding the mother may also get it around the nipple.
Vaccine ? • The fungus normally lives in the body and cannot be eliminated. • Therefore there is no vaccine for Thrush. • Best thing is to do to avoid is keeping a good immune system and a good oral hygiene.
