(a) safety to persons;

To date, Red is not the standard color used by Electric Utility Companies

There are three things to consider when dealing with Construction and Power Awareness:
Limit of Approach – Canada Labor Code Standards
Safe Work Space – TELUS Corporate Standards around Limit of Approach
Joint Use Placing Standards (with the local power authority)
As a Federally regulated company, TELUS is required to follow Part II of the Canada Labour Code which references the Canadian Electrical Code Part III
11. Slide 11 Limit of Approach to Power Conductors Under the Canada Labour Code the following Limit of Approach (LoA) applies for a “qualified person”
An employee or any thing that an employee uses, touches or handles cannot be closer to any live electrical equipment than the Limit of Approach for the voltage specified in the Code
LoA Power Utility Primary = 1.2 m (4’-0”) e.g. 12 kV – 22 kV to ground
A “qualified person” means, in respect of a specified duty, a person who, because of his knowledge, training and experience, is qualified to perform that duty safely and properly
TELUS employees are not qualified Power Line Technicians or electricians, we are qualified telecommunications technicians and are able to work on the joint use plant under these Regulations

The Safe Working Space (Safety Factor) is = 0.9 m (3’-0”) for Power Utility Primary Power (14.4/25 kV)
