  3. Appellate Jurisdiction • Authority to review the decisions of a court having original jurisdiction

  4. Concurrent Jurisdiction • Both having authority to hear a case

  5. Exclusive jurisdiction • Only the federal courts may hear the case

  6. Indictment • Formal charge that someone has committed a felony

  7. Court docket • Schedule of court proceedings

  8. Subpoena • Legal document ordering a particular person to appear in court to testify

  9. Writ of Certiorari • The power of higher courts to request that certain lower court decisions be referred to them for review.

  10. Public hearings • Allowing citizens who have a special interest about a bill to be heard prior to the committee taking action.

  11. Pocket Veto • When the president intentionally takes no action on a bill because he knows congress in not in session and his/her actions cannot be overridden.
