  3. August 27, 2013 Dear Parents, In order to help your child maintain success in the classroom this year, we have requested that they read a minimum of 15 minutes each night. As will be discussed at curriculum night on September 12, 2013, reading builds fluency and comprehension skills, both of which are vital to your child’s continuing education. In addition to reading, we also have seen the need for practicing basic math skills each night, minimum of 15 minutes. Your child may practice at his/her independent level. For example, if your child has mastered all basic addition facts and subtraction facts 0-18, then they may be working on multiplication or division facts. We want this time to best suit their needs. To help your child become responsible for completing this homework, we will be including a weekly log in your child’s binder each week. This sheet will help you and your child organize a time each night to allow for this required practice, Monday through Friday. The sheet will need to be signed nightly by a responsible guardian. If a child is unable to complete this practice and have his/her log signed then they will practice the next day at school during their free time. If they choose to complete the practice during the weekend, they will receive extra credit from our reward system. We appreciate your efforts to work together with us as a team to make this year the most successful it can be for your child! The Third Grade Team Lara Wadlington Marnie Ward Haley Solomons

  4. Classroom Discipline Plan • In order to maintain a classroom that allows all children to learn, I have developed a classroom discipline plan. As I strive to make this discipline plan successful, your support is greatly appreciated. My desire is for your child to achieve to the very best of his or her capabilities, which will require all of us working together. Please read and discuss the following rules, consequences and rewards with your child. • Rules • Our expectations are based upon the new “Pinkerton Pride” which is our pledge for the way a student is to behave at Pinkerton. We start each day by pledging to: • Practice Responsibility • Remain Safe • Include Others • Display Respect • Engage in Learning • These essential agreements will be in effect at all times. • Follow directions the first time they are given. • Respect others. No name-calling or teasing. Listen when others are speaking. • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. • Bring all materials and assignments to class. • Stay on task and participate.

  5. Consequences • When a student chooses not to follow these rules: • Verbal Warning • Sign the book and miss 10 minutes of recess. • Sign the book and miss entire recess. • Visit principal and phone parent. • *** Level II and Level III violations of the Student Code of Conduct will result in the student being immediately sent to the principal. • Rewards • Students who behave appropriately will be positively rewarded with: • *Hugs/Pats • *Treats/Stickers • *Classroom cash, boats, coupons, etc… (These may be used to “purchase” items such as bookmarks, shoes off in class, working at the teacher’s desk, homework passes, etc…) • Thank you for taking the time to discuss this information with your child. I’m looking forward to a great year!
