Reflexive and intensive Pronouns • Reflexive pronoun—refers to the subject & functions as a complement or object of a preposition • Intensive pronoun—emphasizes a noun or another pronoun • Ex 1: Identify the pronouns(s) in the sentences and the antecedent for each (or “unidentified”). Identify each as personal, reflexive or intensive. • The British explorer Sir Richard Burton himself wrote many books about his adventures in Africa. • What is the first pronoun in the sentence? • Himself • What kind or pronoun is it? • Himself—intensive • What is the antecedent? • Himself—intensive/Sir Richard Burton • Is there another pronoun?
