Controlling Blue Bull menace – results of Pilot project – by installing Solar Power Fencing At Central State Farm- Jetsar (Rajasthan ) (A unit of State Farms Corporation of India)
CENTRAL STATE FARM, JETSAR DISTT. SRIGANGANAGAR, RAJASTHAN • Central State Farm established in the year 1964 under the command of Indira Gandhi NaharPariyojna (I.G.N.P) • Total area 5394 ha. • Culturable area 2875 ha • Irrigated area 1736 ha • Rainfed area 1139 ha • Soil of the farm is sandy loam to fine sand • Main crops - • Kharif – Moong, Moth ,Guar G. Nut etc. • Rabi – Wheat, Barley, Mustard, Gram etc.
Costly due to labour intensive. Not effective as labour can’t be at every point. Due to shelter in farm area, fast growth in population. Permission for hunting is not easily available. In the event of death due to any reason, local people’s sentiments pose big threat. Problems in driving away of Blue Bulls

WHAT IS SOLAR POWER FENCE ?
SOLAR POWER FENCESYSTEM THE SMART SOLUTION to control blue bull menace
Working of system • Solar PV Module converts sun shine into Electrical Energy and send to energizer through a back-up battery. • Energizers convert it into high voltage pulse in the range of about 7.0 KV. • Pulses travel through fencing wires at regular interval of 1.2 second. • Duration of pulse is 0.03 second. • It gives sharp shock to animals. • Audio alarm will alert any kind of intrusion. • Energizer capacity – 3 Km. and height of fence from ground is 8 ft.
Benefits • Though the complete result will be available during current year however we can conclude that Solar powerfence system is: • Cheaper by upto 85% compared to compound wall and 75% compared to chain- link fence. The cost of brick wall is about Rs 20 lac per km and chainlink fencing is about Rs 13 lac per km • Quick and easy to erect, durable because of less damage due to low physical contact • Conforms to safety standards • Offers effective control against blue bulls
Crops Productivity (qts/ha) Crops After solar fencing Before solar fencing (2010-11) (2009-10)
Experience of SFCI after installation of system. • The crops were damaged in large area due to rapid growth of Blue Bulls population owing to fencing in border areas which has checked migration of Blue Bulls to Pakistan. • The system has been found accepted to local communities as they are also getting protection. • There is significant improvements in crops productivity. • Expenditure on driving away of Blue Bulls from farm area has reduced by 30% • Request to sanction the project in balance 29 km (phase – ii ) covering – 2765 ha for complete success.
Proposed suggestions • System can be installed on community basis to reduce the cost. • The translocation of Blue Bulls to identified reserved forest could be considered by the State Govts. • The assistance on installation of system may be considered for popularization • As pulses crops are more prone to damage by Blue Bulls, it will help in increasing the Pulse Production.
