About Lane Electric… Headquartered in Eugene Formed May 17, 1939 46 employees 12 Substations 13,000 member-consumers 2,600 sq. miles in Lane County 4 districts / 7 directors Largest customers:Goshen Forest Products King Estate Winery Oakridge High School Fun Fact! There are 40 different cooperatives, municipal, PUD’s and investor owned electric utilities that serve Oregon. 10 of them service Lane County alone.

Who is PNGC Power? • Pacific Northwest Generating Cooperative (PNGC Power) • Generation & Transmission Cooperative (G&T) • Headquartered in Portland • Responsible for meeting electric loads of its members • Member owned by 16 electric distribution cooperatives in six western states • Lane Electric is a member/owner of PNGC

US Department of Energy Smart Metering - ARRA • July 2009 Application to USDOE submitted • Oct. 2010 Grant awarded and announcement • Dec. 2010 USDOE contract completion goal • Feb. 2010 USDOE fires contracting officers • May 2010 USDOE/PNGC contract finalized and signed PNGC/Member Agreements signed • Aug. 2010 Project execution, cyber security, matrix/benefit plans approved by USDOE • Sept. 2010 Received first grant reimbursement

  6. But… • Lane Electric was not part of the ARRA project • Evaluated and selected Cannon AMI system in 2005 • Fully deployed system in 2006 • +/- 98% Read-rate end of 2006 • Arguably, 1st fully deployed/operational system in Oregon

  12. Power Line Carrier System (PLC)… Uses the same lines that deliver our electricity. Is more successful and cost effective for short distances rather than long distances. Components needed to send data signals through transformers onto distribution lines and back to the central station can be more expensive. Communications is slower due to limited bandwidth and one-way capabilities (data can only be transmitted from the meter to the utility).
