Mid Day Meal Scheme • Government of India launched the Scheme in January, 2003 for the children studying in Primary Schools (Classes I to V) • Extended to the children studying in Upper Primary Schools (Classes VI to VIII) in October, 2008 • Extended to the children studying in High Schools (Classes IX & X) also in October, 2008 with 100% state funds • Further extended to the children studying in Special Schools under NCLP from the academic year of 2010-11 4

5. COVERAGE Working Days : • Mid Day Meal provided for 220 working days • Meal for the children in Special Schools of NCLP provided for 302 days

7. Special Features The Government of Andhra Pradesh is providing Mid Day Meal to IX & X Classes students from October,2008 onwards. High Schools - 10016 Coverage - 14,22,920 ‘Green Channel’ Government of Andhra Pradesh has introduced the scheme called “Green Channel Scheme” for making available funds without any interruptions throughout the year for the programmes that extend direct benefit to the poorer sections of the population relating to Agriculture, Rural Development, School Education, Medical and Health, Hostels run by Welfare Departments.

8. School Health Programme:- A School Health Programme called “Jawahar Bala Arogya Raksha” (JABAR) is introduced in Andhra Pradesh to cover all children in Government, Local body and Govt. Aided Schools / Hostels from Classes I to X. The following are the components of Health services covered under the Programme • Screening, Health care and referral • Immunization • Micronutrient (Vitamin A and Iron Folic Acid) management • De-worming • Health promoting schools SWASTHH ON WHEELS: As part of “Jawahar Bala Arogya Raksha” (School Health Program) in A.P., an innovative program is launched on January, 26th 2012 to create awareness on health and hygiene among children and from them to the community (SWASTHH – School Water and Sanitation Towards Health and Hygiene).

21. COOK-CUM-HELPERS • 1.65 lakh Cook-cum-Helpers are engaged to prepare Mid day Meal in Schools • Honorarium of Rs.1000/- (Rs.750 Central share and Rs.250 State share) per month paid to them

28. Kitchen Cum Store Rooms Approved by GOI : 50529 Grounded, : 6185 Completed : 3488 In progress : 2697 Financial assistance : 303.18 Cr, Expenditure : 24.98 Cr. Govt. of A.P has entrusted the work of Construction of Kitchen Cum Store rooms to Engineer in Chief, Panchayat Raj Department, with enhanced unit cost of Rs. 75,000/- and released an amount of Rs.80.00 cr.

31. Inspections & supervision • DEOs, Dy.E.Os, MEOs and MRPs visist the schools once monthly. State officials also visit periodically. Instructions were issued to the MEOs and HMs to invite one SMC/parent / Community member to school at the time of cooking and serving meal and to taste the Meal also. • 1,35,710 institutions have been inspected up to 3rd quarter for the year 2011-12 and Centralized Kitchens were inspected twice each. • Senior Officers of the C & DSE are allotted Districts and are instructed to visit 2/3 days every month to review and monitor the implementation of the Programme.
