  1. Gorillas By Amelia and Kurt

  2. Grow and Develop • When gorillas are born they have small arms and heads. They grow like humans. • They stay with there mothers for 3-4 years. • Female gorillas mature when they are 10-12 years old. • Males mature at 12-13. • When males are mature the average weight is 450. But they can way more!

  3. Reproduce • Gorillas have sexual reproduction. • They are pregnant for about 8 ½ months. • There are usually 3 to 4 years between births so that the babies can grow up and live on there own(without their mothers caring for them). • They will have usually one baby at a time.

  4. Made of Cells • The gorilla cell is made up of the endoplasmic reticulum, nucleus, vacuole, ribosome, cell membrane, cytoplasm, and the lysosome.

  5. Use Energy and Nutrients • Gorillas are herbivores which means they only eat vegetables. • They mostly eat fruit, leaves, and sometimes insects. • They spend most of their day eating. • They have large canine teeth which helps them eat bamboo. • Male gorillas can eat up to 40 pounds of food a day!!

  6. Respond to the Environment • Usually the silverback of the group will defend it by fighting but if it is to much danger they will run and hide. • Gorillas will wander around all day. They do not have a territory. • The mother will protect its young from other gorillas in the group, but in real danger, the silver back and black backs protect the group. The silver back is the leader of the band of gorillas. He is the most dominant.

  7. Adaptations • Gorillas have hands like humans. This helps them grab things to eat, climb trees and make their nests. • They can walk on there hind legs but they usually walk around on their knuckles and feet.

  8. Inherit Traits from Parents • Gorillas have 48 chromosomes • Babies get half of their chromosomes from their mom and half from their dad. • These instructions tell each and every cell parts what to do. They also tell cells of multicellular organisms how to work together to form and individual organism.
