Basic Info • Definition: a landform created by running water, eroding at a sharp angle the soil, on the side of a hill. • Comes from French word “goulet”, or “throat” • Very common in hilly regions and regions with softer, thinner soil.
“Gullying” • Gullies are formed by fast erosion of the soil by a stream or other small water body. • Gullying is the process of making a gully. • Hillsides are more prone to gullying because of the angle at which water moves down a steep hill.
Relation to Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry • The kids walk by a gully everyday on their way to school. • The gully helps separate the road from the forest
On Mississippi • Mississippi is home to many gullies. • Gullies form in Mississippi due to both the mountains in the North East, but also due to the many deltas in the South
