  2. Icebergs • Glaciers vs. icebergs • Glaciers move over land and when they hit water tey become an iceberg. • 10,000 icebergs form every year from Greenland.

  3. Icebergs • Only about 10 percent of an iceberg is visible. • 90% of an iceberg lies below the surface. • The underwater part is a hazard to ships because it is often much wider than the visible part of the iceberg.

  4. Icebergs • The International Ice Patrol was set-up to track icebergs alter the Titanic disaster. • They use ships, planes, and satellites to track icebergs. • Warnings by the patrol have saved many people from disasters like the Titanic.
