History of NIR-Online • February 2003: Joint Network Rail and ATOC submission to change GE/RT8250 to mandate a web-based system. • May 2004: Formation of NIR User Group. • July 2005: RSSB grant authority to proceed. • August 2005: Software Development contract awarded to Interfleet Technology Ltd. • September 2005 - Ongoing: Software development. • Sunday 26th February 2006: NIR-Online launch.

  5. The Old Approach • Historically distribution could take +12 hours by fax. • Laborious process chasing acknowledgements. • Difficult to maintain audit trails. • Limited ability to deliver safety related information “quickly”. • Duplicated effort across the whole industry.

NIR-Online • Web-based system. • Free of charge at the point of use. • Much quicker dissemination of information. • Improved visibility of information and audit trails. • Deliver information consistently and in a user-friendly format. • Distribution via email / mobile phone SMS message. • Better control over the NIR management process. How Does It Affect Me? • No changes to the NIR process (just the method), however GE/RT8250 (not 3350) will be updated to reflect the implementation of NIR-Online. • We know who formally receives NIRs from the NCC and we have already contacted them. • We have already asked each company to tell us which NIRs are closed (for your company). • We need to know who else needs access… • Check http://www.nir-online.net for up-to-date details. • Any questions?
