Premillennialism? • It encourages “alarmism” • It misinterprets O.T. Scriptures • (Abraham’s promises and O.T. prophecies) • It disparages the kingdom • (makes church a substitute, removes king) • It twists N.T. Scriptures • (perverts Matthew 24 & Revelation 20 among others)
Consider Restoration Promises • Jeremiah 33:1-13 • Jeremiah 33:14-18 • NOT fulfilled in Israel May 14, 1948
Zechariah 6:12-13 • Then say to him, `Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Behold, a man whose name is Branch, for He will branch out from where He is; and He will build the temple of the LORD. 13. "Yes, it is He who will build the temple of the LORD, and He who will bear the honor and sit and rule on His throne. Thus, He will be a priest on His throne, and the counsel of peace will be between the two offices."'
Consider Restoration Promises • Jeremiah 33:1-13 • Jeremiah 33:14-18 • NOT fulfilled in Israel May 14, 1948 • Fulfilled in a Priest-King
Hebrews 8:1,4 • Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,…4. Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law;
Consider Restoration Promises • Jeremiah 33:1-13 • Jeremiah 33:14-18 • NOT fulfilled in Israel May 14, 1948 • Fulfilled in a Priest-King • We HAVE a Priest-King, SPIRITUALLY
Hebrews 7:12, 17 • For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also. • For it is attested of Him, "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK."
Consider Restoration Promises • Jeremiah 33:1-13 • Jeremiah 33:14-18 • NOT fulfilled in Israel May 14, 1948 • Fulfilled in a Priest-King • We HAVE a Priest-King, SPIRITUALLY • Our Priest-King is JESUS
Premillennialism wants a priest, but NOT a king, yet. Can’t do it!
Consider Messianic Promises Hebrews 3:6 But Christ was faithful as a Son over His house - whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and boast of our hope firm until the end. • Isaiah 11:1-9 • Ignores v.9- in the mountain of God is “KEY” to the verse. • Isaiah 2:2- “mountain” = “house” of the Lord
Part one considered Abram’s promises… Joshua 23:14 "Now behold, today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word of all the good words which the LORD your God spoke concerning you has failed; all have been fulfilled for you, not one of them has failed. Fulfilled!
Is O.T. Prophecy for Today? Matthew 5:17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.
Is O.T. Prophecy for Today? John 17:4 "I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.
Is O.T. Prophecy for Today? Acts 13:25-33 For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, recognizing neither Him nor the utterances of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him. 28. ….29. "When they had carried out all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the cross and laid Him in a tomb. 30. ….32. "And we preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers, 33. that God has fulfilled this promise to our children in that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, `YOU ARE MY SON; TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU.'
Romans 15:4 • For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
What Should be Our Attitude Toward the Old Testament ? • Rom. 15:4 - to instruct us toward hope
1 Corinthians 10:11 • Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
What Should be Our Attitude Toward the Old Testament ? • Rom. 15:4 - to instruct us toward hope • 1 Cor. 10:11- to instruct us toward obedience
2 Peter 1:19-21 • So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, 21. for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
What Should be Our Attitude Toward the Old Testament ? • Rom. 15:4 - to instruct us toward hope • 1 Cor. 10:11- to instruct us toward obedience • 2 Pet. 1:19-21- to instruct us toward Jesus The Old Testament looked to the FIRST coming of Jesus, NOT His Second.
John 17:4 • I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. Jesus accomplished His work
John 17:11 • "I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. He is NO MORE in the world
John 18:36 • Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm." His kingdom is NOT of this world
Alarmism based on misunderstanding the O.T. is the heart of Premillennialism. Calm and confident obedience, while looking for the end of all earthly things, is the heart of truth. Where are you?
