A Complete System for Managing Assets and Facilities with Advanced Geoinformation Technology Prepared by: Photogrammetry and Laser Scanning Research Group (IcRA) Infocomm Research Alliance (IcRA) Faculty of Engineering and Geoinformation Science Universiti Teknologi Malaysia 25 June 2010 Proposed Techno-Fund Research Project
Introduction..History • Existing e-Science research grant from MOSTI: • Title: “Assets and Facilities Management Based on The Integration of Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) Technologies” • Project Leader: Dr. Zulkepli Majid (PLS) • Given Time Frame: January 2009 to February 2011 • Approved Budget: RM211K • Targeted Research Outputs: • Procedures / methods on the used of TLS as assets and facilities data capturing tool – 1 indexed journal (u.p) • The 3D assets and facilities database – 1 indexed journal (u.p) • Patent Applications: • Innovation in Assets and Facilities Management (patent search: novelty and inventive)

History…[after 14 months] • The panels (from S2S cluster) decision: • to stop the project in June 2010 because the research output have proved that the TLS and GIS technologies can be implemented in AFM applications • that the research should continue with bigger research grant under S2S Cluster • that the research group should submit the “Techno-fund” application for RMK-10 (the budget will be ready by January 2011) [Motivation:“We already have the GREEN LIGHT for the Techno-fund”]
Proposed Techno-Fund Research • Proposed Title: • Enhancement of Assets and Facilities Management Based on The Integration of Geoinformation Technologies • Programme Head: Photogrammetry and Laser Scanning RG • Proposed Potential Research Collaborators: • Spatial Data Infrastructure RG • Center for Real Estate Study • FM Global Solution Sdn Bhd • Proposed Budget: RM3millions (24 months) • Proposed Time Frame: Jan 2011 to Feb 2013
Proposed Title, Objectives, Expected Outcomes and Estimated Cost
Conclusion • The final product will be the “complete system for managing assets and facilities with advanced geoinformation technology”. • The product will overcome few problems occurs with an existing assets and facilities management method which based on conventional filing system.
