  1. Academic Controversy You will be defend and challenge hypotheses based on a piece of literature and synthesize the evidence to create the best supported hypothesis.

  2. Prepare • With your partner create your hypothesis. • What evidence in the play supports your hypothesis? Have quotes prepared. Be prepared to reference specifics in the play. • What questions could be asked to challenge your hypothesis? How will you answer those questions. • What will you each say as you present and defend your hypothesis?

  3. Present • Sit face to face with your partner to your side. • Side one presents first • Side two listens and takes notes

  4. Paraphrase • Side one paraphrase what the pro side said. • Side two verifies they were heard correctly.

  7. Argue - Discuss • Explain why you are right and they are wrong. • Break down their argument and build up your position. • Ask challenging and thoughtful questions. • Site evidence from the play. • Quote from the play. • Win the fight of ideas.

  10. Come to consensus • Drop your position • Decide as a group what the best ideas and supports are. • Create a new hypothesis that is best supported by the evidence. • Write three points of support for the new hypothesis. • Explain the changes made and why.

  11. Write the essay. • You may use any notes in your hand writing. • Write a five paragraph essay supporting your hypothesis to the “What if…” question. • Support with specifics from the play.
