Conservation • Focal Points • Intensification of sustainable conservation of strategic resources • Forests,water towers, wildlife and marine ecosystems. • Achievement of 10% forest cover Goal for 2012: increase current forest cover by 50% Strategies; • Rehabilitation of degraded watersheds while promoting on-farm forestry • Implementation of compensation for environmental services to include carbon markets • Develop sustainable land use policy • Intensify conservation of coastal,mangrove, and marine ecosystems A GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE AND PROSPEROUS KENYA

ASALs and High-risk Disaster Zones • Goals for 2012: • Substantially reduce losses due to floods and droughts • Establish a system to monitor national trends and impacts of climate change and desertification • Pilot programmes on climate change and desertification • Increase agricultural production.
