Direct mentoring On site visits, individual and group coaching, skills development in Project Management, Governance and leadership, Strategic planning, Business plan and budget development with Operational, HR and Financial systems. Technical skills support and assistance Workshop training Finance 1 and 2, including basic book keeping, Human Resource management, including workplace policies and procedures, Business plan formulations, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting. Programme specific training according to the needs of the respective organisations. Peer learning and action-oriented learning Learning from others, sharing experiences and best practice between WC-NACOSA members. Conduit for donor funds For CBOs not meeting donor requirements. Promotes development of financial, accounting and management systems. Building Capacity

    8. Networking Umbrella body More than 300 organisation affiliates, members and individuals. Meetings and forums Quarterly consultation and public forum meetings in all regions: sharing updated information and best practice, platform for critical debate, increased dialogue with government Referrals and enquiries Database and mapping of services and resources Communication Tri-annual newsletter to increase visibility Interactive website to promote sharing and joint action Special interest groups Children’s HIV/AIDS Network and Community-Based Care Coalition. Represent the sector Provincial AIDS Council, Global Fund management committee, Board of Mentoring Resource Network Masibambisane summits Sector came together to plan for integrated HIV/AIDS response in the Western Cape

Working together at different levels and through different structures communication, feedback and securing a mandate Collective coming together as districts and regional WC-NACOSA structures Regional forums in all regions with representation from the sub-districts and districts Community involvement coordination of initiatives at community level IDP structures, local municipalities & MSAT structures Integrated response Promoting local HIV/AIDS planning & financing Elected onto the Provincial AIDS Council Strategic planning provincial strategic plan, local authority, district HIV/AIDS/TB Plan Promoting Dialogue

    11. Community Based Organisations often lack capacity to secure funding. Inadequate systems for monitoring, evaluating, reporting and managing programmes or funds. Rely on volunteer support and lack organisational structure or infrastructure to develop and meet the increasing demands on services. Government and foreign donors often prefer providing financial aid to larger NGOs with bigger infrastructure and sustainable income streams. Rapid mushrooming of new programmes. Lack of coordination within the sector. Duplicating neighbouring services and competing for limited resources. Lack of collective action and limited working together in a strategic or organised manner.

WC-NACOSA Executive Committee Between 10 and 11 members Elected annually at the AGM from the following sectors: 6 nominated by each of the regional forums - Metro, West Coast, Overberg, Cape Winelands (including Paarl and Stellenbosch), Eden and Central Karoo 1 rep nominated by the CBCC 1 rep nominated by the CHAiN Advisory Committee 2 – 3 reps nominated for their expert knowledge and the contribution they are making in the fight against HIV/AIDS, as well as the value they add to WC-NACOSA.
