Understanding the BLm.apollonio - IC / m.rayner - Oxford • DKSolenoid Scan: • NB, Dksol is definitely in the beamline now ... • 19 runs on Wed 19 (1037 – 1054) • DKSol currents varied from 374A to775A in steps of ~20A • “PION” optics, Ptgt=336.85 MeV/c • Central current: 550A = 3.16T • Rationale: checking the modulation in sigx-y produced by a continuous variation of DKSol current • Compare with Simulation • Use TOF0/1 as z-stations  verify DAQ/Data quality • TofMonitor as x-y visual display of the look of the beam MICE Video Conference

TDC – trigger distribution • Dead time & acquisition time • O(microseconds) following trigger • Higher rate than last year • Triggering particle • Peaked (TDC – trigger TDC) • Spurious particles other than the triggering particle also register hits • Uniform distribution •  Cut on TDC – trigger TDC 221 25ps TDC channels the particle which causes the trigger rapidly causes hits in both TOFs O(30ns) ~8m at c a particular PMT cut Elimination of spurious TOF TDC hits

  9. failed TDC cut TofMonitor now implies TOF DAQ/recon is sensible TOF0 plane 0 TOF0 plane 1 TOF0 space points not the particle which triggered TOF1 plane 0 TOF1 plane 1 TOF1 space points • red=blue • excellent TOF operation Elimination of spurious TOF TDC hits

Summary & Future • DKSol Scan needs more investigation to understand discrepancies • real composition of the beam • PI-MU beamline optics was tried some weeks ago producing an excess of (most likely) protons • However data quality and trigger cond’s were not OK to assess this • we plan next to optimise pion capture/transport in the first triplet (dedicated run) MICE Video Conference
