Committee EstablishedNovember 2010 • Establish Ground Rules • Use a Protocol • Discuss Possible Solutions • Brainstorm Possible Resources • Look at possible models from other schools.
Committee Outcomes • We wanted to establish a set of schoolwide playground rules. One set for PK-2 and one set for 3-5. • We wanted to change the schedule so that students went to recess before going to lunch. • Change the schedule so that teachers would do their own recess duty.
Communicate With StaffNovember –December 2010 • Present our proposals to the principal • Voted as a staff on playground rules. • Willing participants emailed suggestions for rules to committee chairperson • Committee chairperson compiled and listed staff suggestions and placed in a central/common area • Staff picked their top three choices (place 3 first choice, 2 by next choice and 1 by last choice)
New Playground RulesJanuary 2011 • K-2 Playground R • No jumping off the playground equipment. • No tag or chasing on the woodchips or blacktop. • Go down the slide on your pockets, one student at a time. • Go up the stairs or the ladder.
Use play equipment correctly. • No chasing or tag. • Use good sportsmanship. • Keep hands and feet to yourself. • Use appropriate and respectful language.
