Concentrating on Now Philip. 3:13-14 (NIV) Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and strainingtoward what is ahead, [14] I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Misappropriating Gifts & Goods Numbers 14:36-38 (NIV) So the men Moses had sent to explore the land, who returned and made the whole community grumble against him by spreading a bad report about it-- [37] these men responsible for spreading the bad report about the land were struck down and died of a plague before the Lord. [38] Of the men who went to explore the land, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived.
Numbers 13:27-30 (NIV) They gave Moses this account: "We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. [28] But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. [29] The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan." [30] Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."
A Different Heart/A Different Focus I, however, followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly. [9] So on that day Moses swore to me, 'The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance and that of your children forever, because you have followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.' [10] "Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the desert. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! [11] I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I'm just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. [12] Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said." [13] Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance.
Things To Concentrate On • You have to focus on the right things & patiently endure thgs that are wrong. • You must keep the vision before you at all times. • You must be willing to fight for what God has promised you regardless of others. • You must be willing to wait on God in expectation of fulfillment. • If you wait on God and obey Him, you will stand in your inheritance. An added bonus—Trusting God will have a positive physical effect on your body.
Gleanings • You cannot focus without a made up mind! • Double minded people are unstable. • Arriving has to be more important than the moment. • God and the destination must be your focus.
The Negro National Anthem God of our weary years, God of our silent tears. Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way, Thou who hast by Thy might Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, Our God, where we met Thee, Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, We forget Thee. Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, True to our native land.
