  1. Missing Out on the Important John 20:19-29

  2. Are You Missing Out? • Would we visit a famous landmark and not take in the sights? Would we sit next to a marvelous buffet and not sample some of the dishes? • Many, like Thomas, are missing out on important spiritual things in life (Jn. 20:19-29) • We must be careful not to misrepresent Thomas as to why he was missing; but, in fact, he was missing, he was not there and we can learn from him

  3. Thomas Was Not With Them • He missed out on the peace of Jesus (v.19,21) • He missed out on the evidence needed to remove his doubt (v. 20) • He missed out on the joy and gladness of being with Jesus and his brethren (v. 20) • He missed out on the Lord’s commission and the reception of the Holy Spirit (v. 21-23)

  4. Missing Out on the Important • We are missing out on help when we fail to pray (Heb. 4:16) • We are missing out on encouragement when we fail to assemble with our brethren (Heb. 10:25) • We are missing out on comfort and guidance when we fail to read our Bible (Rom. 15:4; 2 Tim. 3:16-17) • We are missing out service (love, compassion) when we fail to show good works toward others (Acts 9:36)

  5. Missing Out on the Important • We are missing out on God’s great approval when men fail to serve as elders, deacons (1 Tim. 3:1,13) or evangelists (2 Tim. 4:5) • We are missing out on telling the greatest story (“good news”) when we fail to share the gospel (Rom. 1:14-16; 9:1-2; 10:1) • We are missing out on defeating the devil when we fail to take God’s way of escape (1 Cor. 10:13) • We are missing out on contributing when we fail to be an active member (Eph. 4:16)

  6. Missing Out on the Important • We are missing out on wholesome Christian influence when we fail to gather with our brethren outside the assembly (Acts 2:46; Rom. 12:10) • We are missing out on faith-building evidence when we fail to hear the evidence presented: Bible classes, sermons, one-on-one studies, etc. (Jn. 20:30-31; Rom. 1:19-20; 10:17; Heb. 11:1) • We are missing out on life itself when we fail to become a Christian (1 Tim. 4:8; 1 Pet. 3:10)
