Our Mission The primary purpose of CORE Illinois is to provide a voice for those who work in and/or are affected by addiction, including: •those who work/volunteer in the addiction field • those who suffer from the disease of addiction and their family and friends • those blessed by recovery • policy makers • the general public
Our Vision CORE-Illinois envisions the future as an energetic and involved association, helping its members in their effort to provide quality prevention services, ensure treatment availability, and ongoing recovery support.
Did You Know? Currently Illinois ranks 39th in the nation in spending for addiction services • The effects of this shameful number are, addictions counselors being grossly under paid for the important service they provide. • The second heartbreaking reality of the historical underfunding of addiction treatment is the citizens of our state dying unnecessarily, leaving in their wake the full tragedy of addiction
The Reality • For too long the work done by professional addictions counselors has either been overlooked, or taken for granted. • People in recovery from addiction continue to suffer stigma and discrimination from an uneducated populace and legislators. • People in active addiction continued to be treated as if their condition is the result of willful choice, and questionable character.
Ultimate Goal CORE-ILLINOIS Will not rest until Illinois is Number One in the nation in the delivery of professional quality substance abuse education, prevention and treatment services
Do You Realize? • For every dollar the federal and state governments spends on prevention or treatment for children, it spends $60.25 on the consequences of substance abuse and addiction to them • According to the National Institute on Drugs Abuse, the return on investing in treatment alone may exceed 12:1 - that is every dollar spent on treatment can reduce future burden costs by $12 or more in reducing drug related crime and criminal justice and health care costs
What Can I Do? • Join and support CORE-Illinois • Contact your legislature for their support • Continue your dedication in advancing your professional standing • Help defeat the stigma of recovery • Be an active voice for recovery
