Trip Intentions. Overview . The trip intentions should be the final piece of the paperwork that is completed prior to leaving for the excursion. In the case of a school activity it should be handed in just prior to departure as to contain the most up to date information possible.

Overview • The trip intentions should be the final piece of the paperwork that is completed prior to leaving for the excursion. In the case of a school activity it should be handed in just prior to departure as to contain the most up to date information possible.
What should it cover… • Date the actual date and time of departure • Trip Leader • Who is in charge of the trip (organiser) • Other instructors/supervisors/Teachers
What should it cover… • Names of all group members. • This should be up to date, so that anyone who pulls out last minute is not included. • What forms of communication are on trip • Sat phone • Cell phone • Mountain radio
What should it cover… • What vehicle or transport operators you are using • What the most recent weather forecast is • This should be done no later than the day before departure.
What should it cover… • Description of intended route • This maybe just the direction you will travel by car • Should include most likely tramping routes etc • Possible alternative routes • Just in case plans are forced to change routes, what is a likely alternative route.
What should it cover… • Have you completed RAMS? • What time is the expected to return? • Should be within around two hours. • Check in person on return • Who will you let know that you have returned safely
Other • Trip intentions are generally left with someone who has experience within the area. • In NZ there is an online trip intentions website for private parties • http://www.adventuresmart.org.nz/outdoors-intentions/ • This allows people to leave intentions with outdoor authorities and complete on return using the net, it replaces the old system od using DOC offices.
finally/… • The trip intentions will be the first information given to a search party if necessary and should provide them with accurate information as to locate a lost party as soon as possible.
