Parameterization of overlapping effect for FAST MC H.Torii For photon/pi0 meeting 25/01/2001
Strategy • Some measurement affected by overlapping clusters has been studied already. • Transverse energy vs. multiplicity • By David • MIP energy and E/p ratio • By myself • Pi0 mass • By Ken • Ecore/ptot ratio • By Saskia • Current efficiency by tail effect of ecore/ptot shape is based on the FAST MC by Takao. • There is another tail effect by overlapping effect • If there is a simple parameterization of overlapping effect, it can be used in FAST MC. • Let me propose the simple parameterization
Event Mixing • Cluster multiplicity bins • 1-10 (Most peripheral) • 11-50 • 51-100 • 101-150 • 151-200 • 201-250 • Make event mixing the clusters in 1-10 multiplicity and that of higher multiplicity. • sum of tower’s energy • fastest of tower’s tofcorr • Assume that the clusters in 1-10 multiplicity are isolated, not affected by overlapping effect. 1 + 2 = 3 • Because of the following reason, the result in the next slide can be changed. • Used with different threshold when re-clustering routine is executed because I don’t like to mix pedestal noise.... • Tower Thresh 3 20MeV • Cluster Minimum 15 20MeV • Used with e not ecore!!! • It must be adjusted in future!!!
Identical/Non-identical clustersafter event mixing • Analyzed just 3 runs • Example • 2403 clusters 0-10 muliplicities • 237 clusters (1event) 201-250muliplicites • After event mixing • 1537/2403 (64%) clusters were identical • 866/2403 (36%) clusters has changed its energy or position. • 540/2403(22%) 1 + 1 = 1 • 56/2403(2%) 1 + 1 = 2 • Continued... 1 + 2 = 1 etc. Identical clusters Non-identical clusters 1+1=1 1+1=2 0.0016 x [cluster multiplicity]
201-250 multiplicity Energy shiftof non-identical clusters 151-200 multiplicity • Select only non-identical clusters • Ex. 866/2403 (36%) clusters • Plot the energy difference (increase) after event mixing in different energy bins. • 0-0.1GeV • 0.1-0.2GeV • 0.2-0.3GeV • 0.3-0.4GeV • 0.5-0.6GeV • Distribution of energy difference is • Clusters overlapping occurred independently on the energy • Higher multiplicity shows softer distribution • Depend on the shower shape 101-150 multiplicity 51-100 multiplicity 11-50 multiplicity
Application to Fast MC • Generate a random number 0 – 1 • 1+1 = 1 case • If the number < 0.0010 x [cluster multiplicity] • Throw away a half of such clusters • Increase the energy of the other half of such clusters by another randomized function. • Other case.. • If the number < 0.0016 x [cluster multiplicity] > 0.0010 x [cluster multiplicity] • Increase the energy by another randomized function
Summary • 2 steps parameterizations • Multiplicity dependence • Energy increase • Need to study more... • More higher order. 1+2=1 1+2=2,,,, etc • Photon or hadron shower ?
