JOSHUA GOES TO JERICHO Most versions of the Bible say that Joshua was by Jericho, but the Hebrew originals could be better translated that he was in Jericho. All great generals take time to know their battlefield.
THEOPHANIES In Genesis 3:8, God walks with Adam and Eve In Genesis 18, God appears to Abraham In Genesis 32, God wrestles with Jacob In Exodus 3, God speaks to Moses as a burning bush In Exodus 14, God appears as a pillar of smoke
A MAN WITH A SWORD This should be compared with the vision which Moses saw at Horeb (Exodus 3), when the angel of Jehovah appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. “To Abraham he appeared as a traveller; to Joshua as a man of war” (Matthew Henry)
COMMANDER IN CHIEF Christ will take part in this conflict, not as an ally or an adversary, but as commander-in-chief. All true Christians must fight under Christ's banner, and they will conquer by His presence and power.
HOLY GROUND Consecrated by the Lord’s presence. The same order which God gave to Moses at the bush, when he was sending him to bring Israel out of Egypt. Here, the Lord confirms that as He had been with Moses, so He would be with Joshua.
THE LORD’S BATTLE • Fear not, but prepare to attack the problem • Realise the battle belongs to the Lord • Admit your weakness and limitations • Position yourself on Christ’s victory • Worship and praise
The nature of the enemy's warfare in your life is to cause you to become discouraged and to cast away your confidence. Not that you would necessarily discard your salvation, but you could give up your hope of God's deliverance. Arise and shine, because the battle belongs to the Lord your God, and He is here ready to fight with you and for you. Our victory was won at Easter. Don’t give up hope of seeing God's resurrection power in your life.
